FAQ StepMania
StepMania is a mini-app within Telegram that monetizes your steps, allows you to compete with friends, set records, earn rewards, and participate in prize draws, keeping you motivated to maintain an active lifestyle.
The StepMania mobile app is installed and linked to your phone's Health data (Apple Health / Health Connect) to transfer step count and distance data to the StepMania mini-app in Telegram. These physical activity data enable the main features of the mini-app.
By default, only you can see your steps. If you create or join a leaderboard, the number of your steps becomes visible to leaderboard participants (inside the StepMania mini-app in Telegram and in the bot’s daily report in the leaderboard chat). Other Telegram users, including your contacts, cannot see your steps.
The StepMania mini-app receives step data from the StepMania mobile app, which syncs steps from your phone's Health data (Apple Health / Health Connect). StepMania only uses step and distance data. No other data, including geolocation, is requested or used.
The StepMania mini-app has multiple layers of protection against artificially inflated step counts. Only verified steps are reflected in the StepMania mini-app in Telegram. As a result, the step count in your phone’s Health app (Apple Health / Health Connect) and in the StepMania mobile app may differ from the count in the StepMania mini-app in Telegram. If you notice an unexplained discrepancy, contact support at https://t.me/Stepmania_support_bot.
Download the StepMania mobile app (App Store / Google Play). When you first open the app, a prompt will appear asking for access to your phone’s Health data (Apple Health / Health Connect). Grant access to all requested data (step and distance data).
For iOS: The StepMania mobile app will request access to step and distance data from Apple Health. Allow access to all requested permissions.
For Android: The StepMania mobile app will request access to step and distance data from Health Connect. If your device does not have Health Connect installed, download it from the Google Play Store.
Without Google Fit, Health Connect will not be able to record and transfer steps to the StepMania mobile app.
If you didn’t connect steps during the first launch: Open your phone’s Health app (Apple Health / Health Connect), find the list of apps requesting Health data access, locate StepMania, and grant access to all requested data (step and distance data).
After linking the StepMania mobile app to your phone’s Health data (Apple Health / Health Connect), open the main screen of the StepMania mobile app and tap the “Go to Telegram” banner. The bot will confirm successful step connection and provide a button to open the StepMania mini-app in Telegram. If you encounter issues, contact support at https://t.me/Stepmania_support_bot.
If you see 0 steps in the StepMania mobile app, check your step count in your phone’s Health app (Apple Health / Health Connect).
If the step count differs between the StepMania mobile app and your phone’s Health app, check that the StepMania mobile app has access to your Health data (Apple Health / Health Connect). Access should be enabled.
If you are currently walking or running, a delay in synchronization may cause temporary differences in step counts.
If the issue persists, contact support at https://t.me/Stepmania_support_bot.
If the step count in the StepMania mobile app differs from the count in the StepMania mini-app in Telegram, check the connection between the mobile app and the mini-app.
Open the StepMania mobile app and tap the “Go to Telegram” banner. If the StepMania bot sends a message confirming successful authorization with a button to “Open Mini-App,” tap the button. The step count should update in the StepMania mini-app.
If you are currently walking or running, synchronization delays may cause temporary step count differences.
Additionally, discrepancies may occur if steps fail StepMania’s anti-cheat verification. For more details, refer to “How does the app verify that steps are real?”
If the issue persists, contact support at https://t.me/Stepmania_support_bot.
A leaderboard is a step competition among participants of a specific Telegram chat. It includes daily results, leader changes, team records, and bot support.
To create a leaderboard, add the StepMania bot (@Step_mania_bot) to the desired Telegram chat. Important: do not grant admin rights to the bot. The bot should remain a regular chat participant.
Once the bot is added to the chat, it automatically creates a leaderboard and posts a welcome message.
Every day, the bot sends a report summarizing the previous day’s results, including the leader, the team's total step count, any new records, and more. Each report includes an image or GIF.
To participate in a leaderboard, a chat member must join it.
The bot will send a message with a “Leaderboard” button. Clicking it opens the leaderboard page in the StepMania mini-app in Telegram. The first time a user opens the leaderboard, they must confirm participation by clicking “Join.”
Only members of the chat where the leaderboard was created can join it.
If the StepMania bot is granted admin rights in a chat, it will send multiple warnings requesting that its role be changed back to a regular chat participant.
If the bot’s role is not changed within an hour, it will leave the chat. The leaderboard will remain, but daily text reports from the bot will no longer be sent.
As a regular chat participant, the bot does not have access to other messages in the chat. However, if the bot is granted admin rights, it technically gains access to chat messages (due to Telegram’s bot functionality).
StepMania does not use or process chat messages obtained through admin rights. StepMania values user privacy and recommends not granting admin rights to the bot.
For more details, refer to the section “What happens if I give the bot admin rights?”
Only one leaderboard can be created per chat.
The StepMania bot (@Step_mania_bot) automatically creates a leaderboard when added to a chat. For more details, refer to “How do I create a leaderboard?”
Yes. A leaderboard is created for a specific Telegram chat. A user can be a member of multiple chats, each with its own leaderboard, and join each leaderboard separately. Users can participate in multiple leaderboards simultaneously.
No. Since leaderboards are created per Telegram chat, a user can be part of multiple chats, each with its own leaderboard. There is no limit to the number of leaderboards a user can join.
No. A leaderboard is created for a specific Telegram chat, and all chat members can participate in that chat’s leaderboard.
To leave a leaderboard, open its page in the StepMania mini-app in Telegram and tap the exit icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
A leaderboard is automatically deleted when the last participant leaves.
Open the “Friends” section in the StepMania mini-app in Telegram.
There are two options:
Users who join the StepMania mini-app in Telegram via your referral link are recorded as your referrals in the StepMania system.
In the “Friends” section of the StepMania mini-app in Telegram, you can see your referrals and their activity status.
One-time bonus for inviting a friend
When a referral connects their steps, you receive 10,000 StepMania coins and 1 StepMania ticket. This bonus is awarded upon the first step connection by your referral.
Daily bonus for inviting a friend
Once a referral connects their steps, you earn a bonus of 0.1 StepMania coin per step they take. The bonus is calculated based on the number of steps synced to the StepMania mini-app in Telegram for that day.
StepMania coins are the in-game currency within the StepMania mini-app in Telegram. This virtual currency is not a cryptocurrency.
StepMania coins can be earned by walking and regularly syncing steps from the StepMania mobile app to the StepMania mini-app in Telegram (steps are converted into coins), as well as by completing tasks and inviting friends.
Important: Only today's steps are converted into coins. If you did not open the StepMania mini-app in Telegram and sync your steps yesterday, no coins were credited for those steps. Today, after syncing, yesterday’s data will appear in the step statistics chart (on the main screen of the StepMania mini-app in Telegram, swipe right to see today's step count) and in leaderboards, but no coins will be awarded for yesterday’s steps.
You can also increase the step-to-coin conversion rate and earn more coins per step through your activity (see details in the “Streaks” and “Boosts” sections).
Coins for referrals are credited when a friend connects their steps (see details in “What do I get for inviting a friend?”).
The primary way to earn StepMania coins is by converting steps into coins. A maximum of 20,000 steps can be converted into coins per calendar day.
Any steps beyond 20,000 will still be reflected in the StepMania mobile app and the StepMania mini-app in Telegram, but they will not be converted into coins.
There are no other earning restrictions.
No. StepMania coins cannot be transferred or gifted to another user.
No. StepMania coins can only be obtained through the StepMania mini-app in Telegram. For more details, see “How do I earn coins?”
StepMania coins cannot be exchanged for national currencies. A listing for the StepMania mini-app is planned, but the exact date is unknown (see details in the “Listing” section).
A streak is achieved by walking 1,000 steps daily. The streak count increases as long as the user continuously completes 1,000 or more steps each day.
Maintaining a streak increases the step-to-coin conversion rate. The longer the streak (the more consecutive days the user meets the 1,000-step requirement and activates the streak), the higher the conversion rate.
At certain streak milestones, additional rewards such as coins and tickets are granted alongside the conversion rate boost.
Important: A streak remains active from the moment it is activated until the end of the next calendar day or until the next streak activation on the following day. If the streak is not continued the next day, it resets (see “Can I lose my streak?” for details).
A streak builds up through continuous days of walking 1,000 or more steps.
When you complete 1,000 steps in a day, the left button on the StepMania mini-app's main screen in Telegram will change to a “+1” state, indicating that a streak is available.
Tapping the left button in the “+1” state activates the streak, increases its count, and applies the streak bonuses (see “What are the benefits of a streak?”).
Yes. A streak remains active until the end of the next calendar day or until the next streak is activated on the following day. If the user does not maintain the streak the next day, the streak resets.
A daily boost increases the step-to-coin conversion rate for every 1,000 steps taken in a day. The boost remains active until the end of the same day.
Having a daily boost increases the conversion rate of steps into coins. The more boosts you activate (the more 1,000-step milestones you reach and trigger a boost), the higher your step-to-coin conversion rate within that calendar day.
Important: A boost remains active from the moment it is triggered until the end of the same calendar day or until the next boost is activated on that day. At the end of the day, all boosts reset.
A daily boost is earned for each additional 1,000 steps walked per day.
When you complete 1,000 steps in a day, the right button on the StepMania mini-app's main screen in Telegram will change to a “+1” state (or +2 and more if you have walked multiple 1,000-step increments). This indicates that a daily boost is available.
Tapping the right button in the “+1” state activates the boost, increases its value, and applies the boost bonuses (see “What are the benefits of a daily boost?” for details).
Yes. At the end of the calendar day, all boosts reset and must be earned again the next day.
A prize draw is an activity within the StepMania mini-app in Telegram where participants have a chance to win prizes.
Each prize draw has a deadline—the end date is displayed on the prize draw page either as a date or a countdown timer.
Tickets are required to participate in a prize draw.
A StepMania ticket is an in-game item within the StepMania mini-app in Telegram, required for entering a prize draw.
The exact listing date is unknown, but it is recommended to stay active in the app. StepMania coins can be earned by walking and regularly syncing steps from the mobile app to the StepMania mini-app in Telegram (steps are converted into coins), as well as by completing tasks and inviting friends.
